MIXED DOUBLES RULE

Each receiving team member must clearly take a position on opposite sides of the backcourt within 10 seconds of the score being called. Failure to do so is a delay of game.

Definition of legal serve: The serve must bounce in the middle or in the correct side of the court and must remain either in the middle or in the correct side of the court for the second bounce if it were to occur.

The boy must serve to the boy and the girl must serve to the girl. Any serve that is judged by the referee to be served to the incorrect player is a fault serve (same as a short serve).

Only the boy may return the boy’s serve; only the girl may return the girl’s serve. Returning serve out of turn is considered an encroachment and results in a point for the serving team.

DOUBLES TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

The High School Doubles Tournament begins with Mixed Doubles on Friday after school and into the night and Boys & Girls Doubles throughout the day on Saturday.  Entries must be submitted by coaches online and received by 10pm on the preceding Monday. Fifteeen divisions are offered (see list above).  The athletes must attend the same school to form a team in Boys or Girls Doubles (if you have an odd number of players we can help you find a partner with another school).  The main exceptions are JV3/Middle School doubles (it's a beginner program and we want to help involve anyone who's interested in participating) and Mixed Doubles (not all schools are co-ed).

The design is the same for all divisions.  A straight draw with a consolation division will be offered.  It will guarantee all teams at least 2 matches.  All boys and girls main draw doubles matches are 1 game to 15.  All boys and girls consolation matches are 1 game to 11.  All mixed doubles main draw matches are 1 game to 15.   All mixed doubles consolation matches are 1 game to 11.  In all formats, there is one timeout per game.

We will award medals for 1st place, 2nd place, and 1st place consolation in every division.

Teams will need to provide their own hospitality. Match starting times will be available no later than 6pm on the Thursday before the tournament.  The match times will be listed on www.mohsrball.com (this website) and notification will be emailed to all coaches.
